The Nawiri Mama program is a vital part of Dorcas Creation Kenya, dedicated to supporting children with special needs and their families. We provide a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each child and empower caregivers to create a brighter future for their families.
Our Services:
Therapy Services:
- We offer a variety of therapy services, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physiotherapy.
- Our therapists work closely with each child and their family to develop individualized treatment plans.
- We also conduct regular assessments and home visits to monitor progress and address any challenges.
- In 2024, we launched a new therapy center in Kamae, expanding our reach and allowing us to serve more families.
- We also introduced speech therapy through a new partnership with Special Education Professionals (SEP).
Psychosocial Support:
- We recognize that caring for a child with special needs can be emotionally and mentally challenging.
- We offer counseling services to caregivers, providing a safe space to share their experiences and receive support.
- We also organize support groups and workshops on topics such as nutrition, stress management, and positive parenting.
- In 2024, we held a Fathers' Forum to engage fathers in shared learning and support.
- We also hosted Sibling Days, bringing together siblings of children with special needs for a time of connection, learning, and fun.
Economic Empowerment:
- We believe that empowering caregivers economically is essential for improving the well-being of the entire family.
- We offer skills training in various areas, such as tailoring, hairdressing, and catering.
- We also provide business start-up training to help caregivers launch and manage their own businesses.
- In 2024, we trained 41 caregivers in practical skills like toy-making, yogurt production, and using a fireless cooker.
- We also provided specific trade training to several caregivers, enabling them to generate income through tailoring,hairdressing, catering and beauty.
Our Impact:
- In 2024, the Nawiri Mama program made a significant impact on the lives of children with special needs and their families.
- 155 children participated in therapy sessions, leading to notable progress in their development.
- 17 children were successfully discharged after showing significant improvement.
- We provided psychosocial support to 86 caregivers through counseling sessions and 52 caregivers through nutrition sessions.
- We empowered 41 caregivers with practical skills training and provided trade training to several others.
- We also facilitated business start-up training for 10 mothers.
Looking Ahead:
We are committed to continuing to expand our services and reach more families in need.
We plan to introduce new therapy programs and strengthen our existing services.
We will also continue to focus on empowering caregivers through psychosocial support and economic opportunities.
