Expansion of the Dorcas Creation Empowerment Center:
Since opening its doors in November 2023, the Dorcas Creation Empowerment Center has seen incredible demand for its training programs. Thanks to continued support from Bright Futures Australia, we're thrilled to announce the Center's expansion in 2025! This exciting development will add much-needed training and storage rooms, allowing us to serve even more women in the Kamae slum. The Center, originally constructed in 2022 using innovative shipping container architecture, provides a supportive space for programs like tailoring, hairdressing, beauty, catering, and various craft skills, as well as the Nawiri Mama program.
Nawiri Mama Program 2024 Achievements:
In 2024, the Nawiri Mama program achieved significant milestones in supporting children with special needs and their families. Key achievements include:
Expanded access to therapy: A new therapy center in Kamae increased our reach, and the introduction of speech therapy further enhanced our services.
Improved child development: 155 children participated in therapy, resulting in notable developmental progress and 17 successful discharges.
Empowered caregivers: We provided psycho-social support through counselling, nutrition sessions, and support groups, including a dedicated Fathers' Forum.
Economic opportunities: 41 caregivers received training in income-generating skills like yogurt making and toy making.
Community engagement: We hosted Sibling Days, a Disability Awareness Camp, and partnered with Bethany Kids to distribute wheelchairs.
These achievements demonstrate the program's positive impact on the well-being of children with special needs and their families. We are committed to building on these successes in the years to come.
